The OVH fire has caused a stir for many of its customers. Last Wednesday, in the early hours of the morning, there was a fire in one of the centers of OVH, the largest web hosting provider in Europe, located in Strasbourg and which stored the data of more than 1.5 million customers worldwide.

It should be noted that this fire did not take human lives, but rather a large amount of data loss from significant companies. What caused the fall of different servers and material that is irrecoverable.

At the same time, two of the four OVH towers were the most affected, and one of them was destroyed. Housing at least 29,000 websites.

“The ‘SBG1’ and the ‘SBG4’ will start up again next Monday, while the ‘SBG3’ will have to wait until the next day 19”, confirms Octave Klaba, founder of OVH, which means that it has already put in place an action plan to recover damages.

Who was affected?

Many were affected by the blackouts and data loss of their companies. Some of them have recovered their websites through other servers.

However, companies such as the video game company ‘Rust’ that hosted its data at OVH, affirms that it has been quite affected since certain data is irretrievable.

Others affected were also: the Strasbourg Airport, the French Government, the Villareal Football Club, IM Digital Business or MIT Teach Reviews. Also, the French tourist complex ‘Center Pompidou’ suffered the downfall of its website.

On the other hand, there is also the video game company MundoPixelmon2, who have lost all their data and announced that the recovery of them will take months, leaving as a consequence that users will not be able to play Minecraft.

Activating Disaster Recovery…

The OVH Cloud situation is not the best at the moment. However, they have already planned the activation of data recovery.

What remains for other companies is to take into account a ‘Disaster recovery plan’ to avoid data loss in the future. This guarantees the reduction of interruptions in the operation and, in the cases of natural disasters, cyber-attacks, or external factors allows the restoration of the service to be fast and efficient.
